City, State: Moscow, Russia
Role, responsibilities: Director
The way I got into the project: Actually, I did not leave.
Our project is already two years old. And the fact that it's still
alive shows that we are going in the right direction.
General impression: As compared to the last year shooting
the atmosphere on the lot has changed. The first film was more a
joke, a way of spending time in a good company. The keyword of this
shooting was "work". A lot of new faces have shown up and the old
staff kept up with them. We had a year to discover our previous
mistakes and don't repeat them. The time-table "floated" again but
this time within much more reasonable limits. The organization of
the shooting process was more strict and the shooting took not 9
but 15 days. The selflessness of all cast and crew is a wonder I
never stop to worship.
Most memorable epsodes: The first day of the shooting.
Sunday. We were shooting outdoors. It was raining from time to time,
the wind was blowing stronger and stronger and we had a flock of
rather undressed haradrim's dancers. We had to warm them with mulled
wine. Haradrims and faramirians with no word fought, got wet, falled
to the wet grass and clay. Just heroes.
The Helm's Crap. Before the shooting began we often had repeated
- if we would survive the Helm's Crap we would live forever. And
of course the task was extremely difficult. We had to shoot the
battle and all other Helm's Crap scenes in two days and there were
a lot of them. The weather was absolutely realistic. It was raining
whole weekend June 28-29 (I will remember this date till my last
day) and it was not more than 15 degrees of Celsius. My hands clamping
the second camera freezed. I couldn't look at blueish uruk-hais
who jumped under the wall in their sleeveless t-shirts. They are
even greater heroes. But we have survived. The shooting of the Teoden's
dinner. I can't find words to describe it, you just have to see
it. It's possible that we include it in Beyond the movie next year.
The last day. To my own amazement we've met the time-table. And
the fruit-basket presented to us by cast and crew brought us to
the verge of tears. I love you, my dears! (I mean the participants
of the project not fruits :) But I like fruits too.).
Feats you had to perform for the film: The most heroic
deed I perfomed for the project was my move from Riga to Moscow
and adaptation in the foreign state. It's an only feat that I can
count to myself. I can't call the feat my work on this project.
This is a life how it has to be.
A couple of words for the participants and interested ones:
We did it! Again. In a new way. And will do it again. I want to
thank all participants and supporters. You are the most real wonder.
