City, State: Saint-Petersburg, Russia

Role, Responsibilities: director of photography, designer of the poster, cutting the movie at the moment.

The way I got into the project: I've read about the movie at the forum, but was not planning to participate. Later I mentioned in one of the threads that I liked to take videos. Aliks recommended that I join the project as director of photography.

General impression: They were one of the best days in my life, though the work was very hard. I'm not a professional operator, it was my first experience in shooting a fiction film plus everything was done in quite a short period of time, so we worked for 12 or even 14 hours a day. Nobody expected that though I understood that the shooting would not be a "kids' game". The atmosphere on the set was very bright: a lot of people got together to make to some extent an absurd idea come true but they were working with such eagerness that it really inspired me.

The best moments: A lot of them. I was present at every moment. I recall us shooting the snag, under which the hobbits hid; they were sitting with their backs to the ant hill. I recall myself standing in an awful gorge and on the log above me Aragorn and Arwen where having their date. I recall the Council which we had been shooting till the dark. I recall champagne that was splashed right into my camera. Too many moments to list them all…

The things you would like to change: Good question. Much knowledge comes with experience. Now, when cutting the movie, I understand that a lot of things should have been planned in advance and not done spontaneously. I begin to see the weak points of the script, which become so evident during the cutting. It's a pity, we didn't work with light. It added a lot of work for cutting. Many things should have been done in a quieter atmosphere as when you work in a rush, you leave a lot of "holes". The cutting is on me so it is me who has to think of some "fill-ins" to cover these "holes".

How did your friends/parents react on the project: I have very different friends. Those from HA (the forum) reacted very positively. My colleagues don't know about the project at all, except for a couple of them whom I told. They want to see the movie very much. As for my parents, mom fully supports my hobby, though it brings some problems to our lives. However, since I am an artistic person (I am a dance teacher), all my activities more or less disturb the standard flow of life. So everybody got used to it. Though some of my relatives grunt that my hobby distracted me from writing a dissertation for quite a long time. But as we say: "Who cares!"
